Richard Downes Lovespoons
Centuries ago, young Welshmen created wooden spoons for the young ladies they wished to marry. The spoons were probably very utilitarian, greatly appreciated and much cheaper than today’s engagement ring. Fast forward to the 21st century, and you’ll find lovespoons designed and carved by Richard Downes in his Swansea studio. Made of olive wood or walnut, his creations are the result of years spent learning design and the secrets of wood. Our customers have learned that you don’t have to be Welsh to appreciate the beauty of his work. Richard’s spoons are widely collected in Europe and we are among the few purveyors outside of Wales who feature a wide range of his designs.
